The HOME JourneyThe HOME Committee has been working together since February 2006, lobbying all levels of government, forging links with UnitingCare NSW.ACT, finding private sector individuals who might be interested and submitting grueling proposals for funding. March 2009 HOME received funds from the Department of Ageing, Disability & Home Care (ADHC) to conduct a feasibility study into creating an intentional community. HOME worked on feasibility study with ADHC, UnitingCare Disability and UnitingCare Ageing. March 2010 The completed Feasibility Study was presented to representatives of ADHC. October 2010 HOME met with Michelle Dodds Executive Director, Accommodation Policy and Development Directorate, ADHC. Further information was requested. December 2010 The HOME Committee submitted the further information required in the form of an addendum. 2011 Submitted an application for funding from the Federal Government’s Supported Accomodation Innovation Fund (SAIF), unfortunately we were unsuccessful. Invited to join Inner West Local Government Supported Living Reference Group. Continue to attend meetings. 2012 Continue to approach developers, financiers and community housing organisations for possible partnerships. Master of Journalism student making an Australian Story type documentary on supported living using HOME as a case study. June 2012 The launch of the marketing campaign was held on the 13th June 2012 at Little Ethel’s Cafe at the Sydney College of the Arts. It was a fantastic night for all who attended. Rachael Haggett, co-founder of HOME, officially launched the marketing campaign in what was a beautiful celebration of what HOME has achieved so far and the people that made it possible. Rachael announced the newly formed HOME fundraising committee who organised the evening. Sam Phibbs, of Innerwest Media, launched the fantastic HOME promotional video. Neer Korn, who worked extensively on the market research, spoke about the findings that contributed significantly to the design and content of the video. The formal aspects were then completed with Peter Phibbs, of the Urban Research Centre of the University of Western Sydney and a long-standing member of the HOME board, who presented his thoughts on the HOME project as an innovative approach to accommodation. Jamie Woolcott and Dave Wright of both Little Ethel’s and Woolcott and Wright Catering donated their time to providing fabulous food for the night. October 2012 HOME’s AGM was held on the 11th October. Elected were Richard Betts as Chairman; Jane Sampson as Deputy Chair; Jo Elliot as Secretary and Richard Betts as Treasurer. The 11th of October Melissa Wilkinson launch her film ‘A home to call my own’ at the Royal Oak in Balmain. As part of her final project in her Masters of Journalism at UTS this year, Melissa filmed and edited a thirty minute TV story on Supported Living for people with disabilities. Melissa’s film featured Tom’s House and HOME. The launch was very successful and proceeds form the evening were donated to HOME Inc. In October HOME was also invited by ADHC to present information about HOME to the Colanda Parents and Friends Association and representatives from Victoria’s Department of Human Services on the Supported Accomodation Tour on the 17th of October. March 2013 HOME Community was selected as the charity to support at the popular Sunset Series on Sunday 24th March 2013. Leichhardt Council and Sydney College of The Arts presented ‘Classics at Callan Park’. Set in the picturesque grounds of The Sydney College of the Arts, Callan Park, Classics at Callan Park featured The Metropolitan Orchestra performing pieces from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Leichhardt Espresso Chorus performing excerpts from Messiah and Sydney Secondary College Jazz Orchestra opening the evening. Thank you to all those who came to support this event and HOME Community. A big thank you to the wonderful local businesses that generously donated prizes for the lucky door and raffle held.
